Point Isabel with the big dogs!
On November 7th, 2012, we decided to take the big dogs to Point Isabel Regional Shoreline. Ladybug had to stay home because she needs to get the last of her vaccinations, but she will come out with us soon!
Brego and Suki were very excited when we pulled up to the parking lot at Point Isabel, there are dogs everywhere! Brego had been to Point Isabel two years prior, but it was Suki’s first time, and believe me when I say she LOVED IT! As a hound, she loves smells, and there were so many new ones for her to enjoy! Her nose was to the ground at every spare second that she wasn’t looking around at the other dogs or interacting with them. A hounds paradise!
Brego was a bit stand offish at first, hackles raised all up and down his back and part of his tail for the first few dogs. Then, as he warmed up he was off exploring and introducing himself to the others.
As we got off the main area, we headed down to one of the beaches and found some tennis balls to play with. Brego and Suki were not quite sure what to do with the water, but when presented with a flock of birds swimming around not too far off shore, they were more intrigued. Brego would tip toe in the very edges of the waves, but as we got further down the beach, he found his prey. A group of birds had caught his interest enough for him to jump in to the water and wade to the point where he had to swim and he went for it! He swam several yards and we couldn’t believe it! Before he got to the birds, he turned back because he heard us cheering him on and thought we meant for him to come back.
When we got to the end of the beach, we played fetch in the waves, trying to get him to go further and further so we could see him swim a little bit. We managed to get him to swim a little bit more, but for the most part he was able to keep his footing all the way out to the ball we threw for him. It was cute!
Suki and Brego had so much fun at Point Isabel! We plan on going back again soon!
- A very proud Brego with some wood we threw into the waves for him.
